Special Needs Groups

ComLink Limited understands that Australia has communities that are varied in many ways. We recognise that our long-term success depends in part on the wellbeing and sustainability of the communities in which we operate.

How we support diversity

Striving to work together and building relationships with local communities allows ComLink to uphold corporate and social responsibilities. ComLink will ensure that customers we service in the communities have access to services without any discrimination. The diversity of these communities include:

  • people‚Äôs age

  • culture
  • socio-economic background
  • geographic spread
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
  • Culturally and Linguistically diverse people
  • people who live in rural and remote areas
  • people with mental health problems
  • people living with cognition impairment including dementia
  • people with a disability
  • parents separated from their children by forced adoption
  • care-leavers
  • the homeless or risk of becoming homeless, and
  • veterans

Employees receive training around Diversity including who the different groups are that comprise the diverse populations in the communities we serve. This enables a better understanding of the Rights and Responsibilities of these groups and how we can ensure they receive equality in all that we do. ComLink employees and volunteers are aware of and adhere to the following imperatives, which are based around equity of access and outcome, empowerment, inclusion, quality, and capacity building.

Specifically, aged people with diverse characteristics and life experiences, their families, carers and representatives:

  • will have equitable access to information and services that are effective and appropriate to their needs, taking into account their personal circumstances
  • are respected and supported and have the information, knowledge, and confidence to optimise their use of the care services ComLink offers
  • are included in the development, implementation and evaluation of the services ComLink provides them
  • are treated with respect, dignity and can maintain their identity
  • are able to make informed choices about their care and services and how these services support them to live their lives as they choose
  • have the capacity to articulate their ageing and aged care needs and have their diverse characteristics and life experiences embraced; and
  • have input into the development of services and the workforce to meet their needs

ComLink will embed the diverse characteristics and life experiences of all older people in planning, delivery, monitoring and transparent reporting.
