ComLink Presents Common Ground Community Café

Last Friday afternoon ComLink launched Common Ground Community Cafe, a reboot of its successful predecessor Link Café Lakeside.

The launch was celebrated with a two-hour cocktail function, that raised money for the Compass Institute’s Assistance Animal program.

While it may sound strange to use your debut to promote another organisation, it’s exactly what Common Ground is all about.

‘We want Common Ground to be the place that everyone goes to meet, whether for business, pleasure or family. We want to bring people together around great food, with a philanthropic spirit’, Chef Scott Coulson said.

Common Ground and its amazing supporters were able to raise $450.00 on the night that will go towards training Compass’ assistance dogs, who work with and improve the lives of autistic children.

Raising money for the community will be at the forefront of what we do. Common Ground will constantly be looking for new community partners to support with our meal of the month and event nights.

These events, to be held once a month on Friday nights, will bring together locals for Friday knock offs and a great opportunity to unwind at the end of the week.

But don’t forget our meals of the month! These reasonably priced chef’s specials are more than just a gourmet lunch, they are our innovative way to give back to local causes. $5.00 from every Meal of the Month we sell goes directly to our partner organisations.

As you can see from our first event, we’ve already put a smile on a few faces.

Common Ground is open from 7am to 3pm Monday to Friday. We hope to see you here soon!

Encouraging Innovation with ‘Intrapreneurship’

ComLink is growing quickly at a time of disruption across the entire economy, and innovation is important so that we can (a) deliver our services as efficiently and effectively as possible, and (b) stay ahead of the pack, justifiably claiming we’re ‘Leading the Care Revolution’. We have creative, talented and motivated people in our paid and volunteer workforce, and some of them will be attracted to the idea of adding a new strand to what they do: intrapreneurship! What’s an ‘intrapreneur’? A person working like an entrepreneur, but within the boundaries of an established company – “Dreamers who do. Those who take hands-on responsibility for creating innovation of any kind, within a business.” ComLink Intrapreneurs work, individually or in small […]

Future Makers

“The stories we tell literally make the world. If you want to change the world, you need to change your story. This truth applies both to individuals and institutions.” –Michael Margolis ComLink is a charity that helps older Australians and younger people with disabilities live fulfilling and meaningful lives. We are researching and developing our role as a social innovator – not just responding to problems but imagining futures without the root causes of these problems. What might such futures look like? What is ComLink Future Makers? ComLink has initiated a volunteer program called Future Makers, which will bring together individuals and groups to gather and share the hundreds of stories contained in our communities – our clients and also […]

Meeting on Common Ground

Loneliness is a feeling that arises in response to a lack of emotional connection with others and can often occur as a result of social isolation. For many elders, loneliness and social isolation is a common challenge that accompanies aging. Interestingly, but sadly, there is a trend for older people to present to hospital emergency departments, not necessarily due to medical problems but instead for social interaction, or because they are simply not coping. In a study by the Australian Government, it was found that people classified as ‘lonely’ are 60% more likely to access emergency services than those considered ‘non-lonely’ and are twice as likely to enter residential aged care facilities. ComLink is proud to have launched Meeting on Common Ground, a program that aims to […]
